Who Are We?
We are professional musicians, producers, sound engineers, pro audio experts, and technology nerds. Some of us have been in, and or around the music business for nearly fifty years, while others are in their twenties. A common thread is that while we believe that live music is special and a true art form, technology has changed the way live music is presented. Musical audiences of today expect a high level of musicianship, sound and general presentation.
We want to share our varied expertise with live performers at all levels in a way that is not disruptive to your creative process and at a price the working performance musician or band of today can afford.

Where Are You Located?
Our Studio is located on Florida's Space-Coast In Brevard County, but with today's technology advances, many of our contributors work virtually.
Why Do You Make Multi-Tracks?
Primarily out of necessity. Many of us performed in bars, nightclubs, and other venues of all sizes dating back to the late 1960s and early 70s. At the same time, we watched our favorite national (and international) music acts lip-sync to their professional studio-recorded songs on TV! Back home we were struggling with re-creating live what we heard on studio recordings. Not many people were aware that even bands like "The Who" were using backing tracks in the 70's live!
At that time the know-how and tech wasn't available to us, and even if it was we would have rejected it as fake, illegitimate and way too expensive. But things have changed.
Since then the tech has become affordable and practical. Used properly and tastefully, multi-tracking can augment your solo, duet or trio live performance without hiring more musicians (not to mention backup singers) to cover the songs you always wanted to.
Finally, just consider for a moment how much changes there were before any of us were born.
The Microphone - Invented in 1877, but it took until 1920 before it was perfected and used in entertainment.
Reverb, Echo and Delay - These effects occur naturally, but acoustically treated rooms, analogue and digital devices have made it available to most anyone today.
Multi-track Recording - First used in 1955, multi-tracking became possible in the mid-50s when the idea of simultaneously recording different audio channels to separate discrete "tracks" on the same reel-to-reel tape was developed. (Thanks to Les Paul)
MIDI - Developed in the early 1980s MIDI was, and still is a musical/performance game-changer. Although digital multi-tracking has taken audio to another level, MIDI is still used for controlling lights, audio, video effects and instrument patch changes. All of this fully synchronized with your Colson Studios multi-tracks!
DAW - DAW is an acronym for Digital Audio Workstation. A DAW is an electronic device or application software used for recording, editing and producing audio files. DAWs come in a wide variety of configurations from a single software program on a laptop, to an integrated stand-alone unit, all the way to a highly complex configuration of numerous components controlled by a central computer.
BackUpBandInABox - Is Colson Studio's solution for taking all the above technologies and placing them in an easy to use form factor. Easy to set up, yet full-featured and very affordable. You can also learn about our hardware partner HERE.
